Neurotoxins such as Daxxify, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are FDA-approved and clinically proven to temporarily improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. By blocking the release of acetylcholine, muscle contractions are reduced resulting in a smooth and well-rested appearance. Dosing is determined individually and is based on the strength of your muscle and natural anatomy. The procedure can be as quick as 10-15 minutes, allowing you to immediately return to your daily activities following your appointment!

BOTOX

Botox is a cosmetic form of botulinum tox or Onobotulinumtoxin A. It is used to freeze muscles or stop communication between the nerves and the muscles. Botox injections block the nerve signals to the muscles to keep muscles from contracting when you make repeated facial movements like smiling, frowning, squinting, etc. Contractions are responsible for the lines and wrinkles you see on your face and injections. Botox will give your face a smoother and younger look.

Botox can also be used as a block for excessive sweating, migraines, eye twitching, jaw pain, and overactive neck muscles. You can also use Botox to soften a square jawline, smooth a dimpled chin or correct a gummy smile.

Botox has been injected for many years to treat wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is the brand name of a toxin from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox blocks signals from nerves to muscles and smooths out wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement. A muscle that cannot contract cannot make wrinkles. Botox is used on forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. Botox is not effective with wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity.

Depending on the severity of your wrinkles, and the number of injections you need, it may take up to 14 days for Botox to be fully noticed. However, you will see results as early as three days after treatment.

Botox is FDA approved and has been tested more than ibuprofen for safety issues. Research states that Botox will generally not result in complications from the injected site.

DYSPORT

Dysport or abobotuliumtoxinA is an injectable neuromodulator to smooth fine lines and wrinkles for up to four months. It is FDA approved to treat the glabellar lines between the eyebrows (the 11’s). Dysport can also smooth expressions like crow’s feet and forehead creases. You can also use Dysport for the bunny lines on the bridge of your nose, raise the corners of the lips, and smooth the dimples on the chin and upper lip to correct a gummy lip.

Dysport works by temporarily blocking the communication between nerves and muscles. This process of blocking muscle contractions doesn’t damage your skin or muscles but smooths out wrinkles, and other ceases that appear when you make facial expressions. You can also use Dysport to minimize muscle movement and prevent future wrinkles.

XEOMIN

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is considered a “smart toxin” that removes unnecessary proteins, leaving a purer form of active ingredients containing only what is needed to smooth facial lines after treatment. Like Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is injected into muscles and used to temporarily minimize the look of moderate to severe facial lines due to excessive muscle movement.

Aftercare
Mild swelling and redness can occur at the injection site and subsides within hours of treatment. You can resume your normal activities following treatment but should avoid exercise for four hours. Patients should also keep their heads elevated for the first 8-10 hours.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours. It is okay to wash your face after receiving Botox or Dysport injections but do be careful and do not be harsh with the treated area.

Three things you should do after your Botox or Dysport treatment:
• Frown repeatedly for an hour immediately following the injections. Frowning will help the treated areas by increasing the uptake of the injection. After this, avoid extreme facial expressions for up to 12 hours.
• Sit upright for the first 4 hours. (Some healthcare providers suggested keeping your head elevated for 8-10 hours if possible.)
• Gently apply light makeup after treatment and avoid massaging. Use a light dapping motion. Do not rub or spread makeup on the treated areas.

Safety Information

The effects of Dysport and Botox, as well as all botulinum toxin products, may affect areas of the body away from the injection sites. Symptoms usually occur hours after the injections, but it could take weeks for the symptoms to appear. These symptoms include swallowing and breathing problems, strength, and muscle weakness all over the body, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, hoarseness or loss of voice, and loss of bladder control. Be aware that swallowing and breathing problems can be life-threatening. However, it has been proven that you are at higher risk of these symptoms if you have pre-injection problems.
