Kybella® is the only FDA-approved, non-surgical, injectable treatment to reduce submental fullness. The injection, a manufactured version of deoxycholic acid that comes from your digestive system, contains a naturally occurring molecule that absorbs and eliminates fat cells. When injected properly, the surrounding cells are left healthy and intact, killing only the fat cells you wish to remove. As a result, your body naturally eliminates the dead fat cells from the body. Kybella also treats small areas of fat, such as bra bulges, the stomach, and the inner thighs. In addition, treatment with Kybella® is quick and requires little downtime.

During your consultation, we will examine your areas of concern and determine the best treatment plan to meet your needs. We will also determine if you will need any further treatment sessions. It has been found that at least four treatments provide the best results. In addition, Kybella can be combined with other treatment options to address your areas of concern.

Risks of Kybella can be serious but temporary. These side effects include nerve injury in the jaw and difficulty swallowing. Nerve injury can also lead to an uneven smile or some facial muscle weakness. However, these side effects are rare.

Often Kybella needs to be repeated until you get the results you want. However, many patients do not return for additional treatments, and their reactions can be unsatisfactory. However, discuss your treatment with your Envi professional.

Your particular outcome depends on your anatomy, the amount of fat you want to treat, and whether your skin has good elasticity. Kybella could work quite well for you, or you may need more treatment than others.

What Happens During a treatment?
Your appointment starts with an analysis and assessment by your provider and a photo so you can measure your progress. You may be weighed since post-treatment weight might lead to suboptimal results.

The areas to be treated will be sterilized. You don’t need anesthesia, but many providers apply a topical numbing cream about 60 minutes before the treatments. This numbing cream reduces any discomfort.

When you are numb, your injector will administer quick Kybella injections. Depending on the amount of fat you want to be treated, you may need anywhere from 20-30 injections.
Most treatments take only 15-25 minutes.

Kybella is a permanent solution to eliminating small pockets of fat and is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment used to improve the appearance and profile of fat under the chin. Off-label, Kybella has proven effective on the inner thighs, posterior thigh, jowls, stomach, and bra bulges.

During your consultation, we will determine how many treatments you will need based on your chin profile. No more than six sessions are typically required. We will let you know if you need more treatments. Treatments are scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.

Bruising and swelling are common. Allow yourself two weeks before an event or vacation. Severe swelling is rare.

In trials by the FDA, patients who gained weight after their procedure did not see fat in their treated areas return. You can see the most noticeable results in 60-90 days. However, you can see the fat return in areas that are not treated. Therefore, it is recommended that you maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and eat right.

The number of treatments varies. Typically, you will not receive more than six treatments. Schedule a consultation to create a customized treatment plan to meet your needs.

Bruising and swelling are common. Allow a minimum of 4 weeks ahead of any events or vacations. You may experience mild to moderate swelling for about a week. You may have severe swelling like a bullfrog, but if this happens to you it may take a month for the swelling to resolve. This significant swelling often happens in patients with a large amount of submental fat. This reaction minimizes with subsequent injections.
You may also have some bruising around injection sites, but this can be covered with makeup and should go away within a week or two. However, your treatment area may feel tender for up to two weeks. Ask your provider to recommend over-the-counter pain medication.
If you feel a jiggling sensation in the area, this is normal. This sensation is because the fat cells are dissolving and being absorbed by your body.

Cost

The price for Kybella depends on how many vials are used, the experience level of your injector, the practice locations, and many other key factors. Kybella is an elective procedure, so your health insurance does not cover it. Kybella vials add up quickly, so discuss what you need with your provider.

Costs can be:
Average Cost: $1,400
Range: $300-$2,700

Kybella is safe when used in the chin area. The treatment does carry a small risk of nerve damage that can give you a crooked smile. This damage is very temporary. Kybella is only approved for use in the chin area. Other risks may not be known if Kybella is used off-label.
